Director's / Curator's Statement:
„When we started to contact the Chinese investor Jonathan Pang in 2008, we had no idea that it would take such a long time to make this film happen. It took us four years, until we got it funded. But despite all difficulties, we knew from the very first moment, Mr.Pang is an extraordinary character and protagonist. Very open (despite all prejudices concerning Chinese businessmen) and extremely convinced of his business vision. On the other hand, he had no clue what documentary means. We tried to explain and he happily said: „Great! You will feature the raise of our airport!“. As I reluctantly countered, that it will not be a propaganda film, he started to smile and said: „Even better!“ Throughout the years filming was always a fight between Pangs and our ideas. He tried to promote the project, we tried to catch authentic moments. It took Mr. Pang a long time to understand that documentary is not about a project, but about life itself. Amazingly enough, he accepted and in the end, when over the years a strong bond of trust had been grown, he was ready to disclose his deepest feelings. I hope, our film will not only show, how many hidden traps and gaps arise if two cultures clashes. I hope, the film will also give the audience a feeling of who and why these Chinese entrepreneurs are what they are.“ (Stefan Eberlein, Manuel Fenn)
