Conference: Romania under the magnifying glass - Two decades of documentary cinema in Romania
Defining the word ”documentary” has always been a challenge. The documentary can be: a real and factual/ adequate portrayal of the environmental world, a creative interpretation of reality , a nonfictional speech based on direct recording of facts, an expression of the personal, and/or social realities, a cinema about people, events and situation found in the real world, independently and beyond the film. If we put the documentary and the non fictonal film in congruence, this equality would contain all the audio visual creations that have reality as raw material, in a wide range of approaches, from the author documentary to reality show productions. Themes in discussion are:
What is the state-of-the-art Romanian non fictional production on this extremely wide scale? How does the social environment influence the factual television productions ? What kind of collections, archives, schools, training programs function in Romania? What approaches and themes about Romania are prefered by the documentarians? How is the Romanian documentary promoted?
After having promoted documentary cinema in Romania, and the Romanian documentary abroad for twenty years, ASTRA FILM invites you to a series of debates on these topics during the conference ”Romania under the magnifying glass – Two decades of documentary cinema in Romania”, a special program in the Astra Film Festival anniversary edition.
