Astra Film Festival 2017

Concerts

A heterogeneous mix of music genres will entertain documentary film buffs at the 2017 AFF.  SonoRo, Luiza Zan and Subcarpati will fix up the soundtrack of the 7 autumnal days filled to the brim with films.

SonoRo, a highly regarded group of chamber music, consisting of Razvan Popovici, viola, Ella Bokor, cello, Diana Ketler, piano and Thorsten Johanns, clarinet, will put on a special concert within the 24th edition of the Sibiu non-fiction film festival.

Luiza Zan is one of the most popular jazz singers in Romania. Having released 7 albums, among which Heritage, her first solo album which was released in the spring of 2016, Luiza Zan is the author of distinguished theatre shows, as well as the soundtrack of several documentary films.

SubcarpaÈ›i is an explosive mix of Romanian traditional music and modern beats. An eclectic combination which will enliven us with Romanian folklore, traditional instruments and trip-hop, dubstep, rap or dancehall beats. When talking about the music played by Subcarpati, most people say it reminds them of their ancestry and makes them proud of their “home”. With respect to the new album – Statele Unite ale Balcanilor (The United States of the Balkans) – the founder of the band, Bean MC, states: “It’s about bringing down the borders in the quest of discovering a new Balkan sound, a common culture.”
