Portrait Leonard Helmrich

Astra Film Festival 2009 is proud to present the portrait of Leonard Retel Helmrich, whose sesies of documentaries shot in Indonezia have won awards worldwide.

Leonard Retel Helmrich is a Dutch/Indonesian filmmaker who worked as a drama director and cameraman in the Netherlands before making his appraised Indonesian documentaries.

He also developed a theoretical perspective for his work as well as a practical technique for an approach that he calls „single shot cinema”, involving long takes with a constantly moving camera, and now runs workshops for broadcasters and with filmmakers to share his technique.

We welcome Leonard Retel Helmrich and his famous films in Sibiu, at Astra Film.
